Happy Winners, Sore Partisans? Political Trust, Partisanship, and the Populist Assault on Electoral Integrity in Mexico

Winning elections usually make partisan voters more politically satisfied and confident. However, if they voted for a president that actively undermines the legitimacy of democratic institutions, will be compelled to accommodate their views update judgment on selective basis. They support regime's performance yet distrust institutions denounced by government. This claim is tested using data from representative survey conducted in Mexico. In this country, populist leader who consistently denounces all constraints executive. particular, frequently safeguarding free fair elections. The analysis reveals gap political trust reflects opposite reactions winners losers executive's antagonizing behavior. Voters supporting winning party are with democracy. less likely integrity than losers.
